Beautiful Window Light

When I first started my photography business, I didn’t have much money or equipment.  So I either took all outdoor portraits, or I would set up a bed sheet – usually taped to a wall or chairs – in front of a window, and hope for a bright sunny day.  I was so excited when the day finally came that I could afford professional studio lighting and backdrops.  I was so intimidated at first with the studio lighting, but once I got the hang of it, it became the easiest way for me to do portraits.  I know what lighting ratios I like to use, I set them up, fix the settings on my camera, and then never think about it again.  I only have to focus on composing the shots.  Well, for whatever reason, I am now obsessed with the work of photographers that use all natural window light.   Natural light can be so soft, so dramatic, so beautiful.  So now my goal is to learn how to really use natural lighting to create beautiful portraits in client’s homes.   I had my first such shoot this weekend.   This is one of my daughter’s little friends who is now 10 months old.  She is a beautiful little girl and they have a beautiful home, so they made it easy to get beautiful images.  Here are a few of my favorites.  (I only took about 300 images!)
