In February I had the awesome opportunity to go to the Babies & Bellies seminar by Sandy Puc’ of Expressions Photography. She is an amazing speaker and a very talented photographer. She brought in a real live newborn, only two weeks old, and in front of a couple hundred photographers demonstrated various poses to use with a mom and a baby. This of course was great information for me, especially since I had a newborn session and this 3 month old session just days after the seminar. So here are the results of some of the new poses I learned. I’m so glad the timing worked out for this because I always remember something I’ve learned if I’m able to apply it right away.
The "Bird’s Nest" pose…
The "Cradle" pose…
The "Football hold"…
"Chest to Chest" – this one works a little better with newborns. 3 month olds tend to pull away a little…
The "Cradle" again (love the eye contact)…
The "Beth trying desperately to get at least one smile from Miss A in her cute pink outfit" pose…
One of the things Sandy really touched on in the seminar is how special it is to have mom and dad pose with their baby. So often we only focus on the baby. I know most of my studio sessions with babies are of the baby alone. I know moms don’t usually feel like having their picture taken right after giving birth, but throw on a black shirt and get yourselves in there. You’ll be glad you did in a few years when your baby is all grown and not wanting to cuddle with you anymore!
